Japanese : 望郷
Korean :

German : Drunten im Unterland [Down in the lowlands]
Lyricist : Gottlieb David Ludwig Weigle (1835)

Genre : Swabian Folk Song (1842)

Down in the lowlands, there, it's nice.

Down in the lowlands, there, it's nice.

Schlehen im Oberland, Trauben im Unterland;

Sloes in the hills, Grapes in the lowlands,

Drunten im Unterland möcht' I' wohl sein!

Down in the lowlands, that's where I want to be.

Down in the Neckar valley, there, it's good.

Down in the Neckar valley, there, it's good.

Ist mer's da oben 'rum manchmal au' no' so dumm,

Even if, up on the hills, it's sometimes too strange for me,

Han i' doch alleweil drunten gut's Blut.

I always have a good time, down in the lowlands.

It's cold up on the hills, it's warm down in the lowlands.

It's cold up on the hills, it's warm down in the lowlands.

Oben sind d'Leut' so reich, d'Herzen sind gar net weich,

Up on the hills, the people are so rich, their hearts are not soft,

B'sehnt mi net freundlich an, werden net warm.

Look at me unfriendly, don't get close.

But down there, the people are poor.

But down there, the people are poor,

Aber so froh und frei und in der Liebe treu;

But so happy and free, and so faithful in love,

That's why, down in the lowlands, the hearts are so warm.

[The Spring Pool]
Lyricist :
Music : Swabian Folk Song - Drunten im Unterland

How I wonder who may drink

From the spring pool on the mountain?

How I wonder who may drink

From the spring pool on the mountain?

At dawn a rabbit wakes

Rubbing his eyes to rise

Though he came to wash his face

All he did was have a drink
